A new ionic liquid containing a 1H,4H-piperazine-diium ring and chlorosulfonate as a 1,4-dicationic core and counter ion, respectively, was designed and synthesised. The structure elucidation of this ionic liquid was conducted by 1D and 2D NMR, FT-IR, Raman, and mass spectrum analysis. The physical properties of this ionic liquid were determined and reported. Furthermore, the dual solvent-catalyst activity of piperazine-1,4-diium dichlorosulfonate was investigated for the synthesis of new dihydro[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidines through a one-pot three-component reaction. The ionic liquid was retrieved and reused several times without reducing its catalytic efficiency.

The viscosity of neat ionic liquids is very important for their application in organic synthesis as a solvent because most of the neat ionic liquids are very viscous, which would result in the less efficient mass transfer of reactants. In the present study, a series of novel dihydro-[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidines were prepared using a low viscous and acid-functionalized ionic liquid. Our results showed that new ionic liquid can act as a green solvent and acid catalyst due to low viscosity and acid functionality. The products were simply extracted and the ionic liquid was retrieved several times without reducing its catalytic efficiency. The current application of TMDPS in the one-pot multicomponent reactions as dual solvent-catalyst highlights the importance of low viscous acid-functionalized ionic liquids in organic synthesis, and we hope that further research will be conducted in the future to finding other applications of TMDPS with promising results.

The phytohormone abscisic acid plays a pivotal role in regulating plant responses to a variety of abiotic stresses including drought and salinity. Maize ABP9 is an ABRE-binding bZIP transcription activator that enhances plant tolerance to multiple stresses by positively regulating ABA signaling, but the molecular mechanism by which ABP9 is regulated in mediating ABA responses remains unknown. Here, we report the identification of an ABP9-interacting protein, named ABP Nine Complex Protein 1 (NCP1) and its functional characterization. NCP1 belongs to the recently identified NINJA family proteins, but lacks the conserved EAR motif, which is a hallmark of this class of transcriptional repressors. In vitro and in vivo assays confirmed that NCP1 physically interacts with ABP9 and that they are co-localized in the nucleus. In addition, NCP1 and ABP9 are similarly induced with similar patterns by ABA treatment and osmotic stress. Interestingly, NCP1 over-expressing Arabidopsis plants exhibited a reduced sensitivity to ABA and decreased drought tolerance. Transient assay in maize protoplasts showed that NCP1 inhibits the activity of ABP9 in activating ABRE-mediated reporter gene expression, a notion further supported by genetic analysis of drought and ABA responses in the transgenic plants over-expressing both ABP9 and NCP1. These data together suggest that NCP1 is a novel negative regulator of ABA signaling via interacting with and inhibiting the activity of ABP9.

Human activities such as agriculture, aquaculture, and industry can lead to the pollution of coastal waters by trace organic contaminants (TrOCs), and the TrOCs can pose a threat to marine ecosystems. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the occurrence, distribution, and ecological risk of the TrOCs in coastal waters. Previous studies adopting conventional analytical methods have focused on a limited number of targets. Herein, a comprehensive and systematic determination was undertaken to target 484 TrOCs in the waters around the Liaodong Peninsula, China. Eighty-six TrOCs were detected at concentrations of up to 350 ng L-1, and 25 TrOCs were detected at a frequency of >50%. Pesticides were the predominant pollutants, occurring at high concentrations with large detection frequencies. Ecological risks were assessed for single pollutants and mixtures based on the risk quotient and concentration addition modeling, respectively. The detected pesticides posed relatively high risk to aquatic organisms, while pharmaceuticals, consumer products, and other pollutants posed little or no risk. TrOC mixtures posed extremely high risk to aquatic organisms, which represented a significant threat to the marine environment and local communities. The results described here provide useful information that can inform China’s Action Plan for Prevention and Control of Water Pollution. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Wood (secondary xylem) formation in tree species is dependent on auxin-mediated vascular cambium activity in stems. However, the complex regulatory networks underlying xylem formation remain elusive. Xylem development in Populus was characterized based on microscopic observations of stem sections in transgenic plants. Transcriptomic, quantitative real-time PCR, chromatin immunoprecipitation PCR, and electrophoretic mobility shift assay analyses were conducted to identify target genes involved in xylem development. Yeast two-hybrid, pull-down, bimolecular fluorescence complementation, and co-immunoprecipitation assays were used to validate protein-protein interactions. PaC3H17 and its target PaMYB199 were found to be predominantly expressed in the vascular cambium and developing secondary xylem in Populus stems and play opposite roles in controlling cambial cell proliferation and secondary cell wall thickening through an overlapping pathway. Further, PaC3H17 interacts with PaMYB199 to form a complex, attenuating PaMYB199-driven suppression of its xylem targets. Exogenous auxin application enhances the dual control of the PaC3H17-PaMYB199 module during cambium division, thereby promoting secondary cell wall deposition. Dual regulation of xylem formation by an auxin-mediated PaC3H17-PaMYB199 module represents a novel regulatory mechanism in Populus, increasing our understanding of the regulatory networks involved in wood formation.

A new energetic coordination polymer (ECP) composite, namely GO-Cu(II)-AmTZ, has been synthesized by 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole (AmTZ) and multifunctional graphene oxide (GO) coordination with Cu(II) successively. The ECP composite was further characterized through SEM, EDS and XPS analysis as well as FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. It shows high thermostability, high decomposition heat release and insensitivity to mechanical stimuli. What’s more, thermal analysis data for ammonium perchlorate (AP) have been obtained by mechanically mixing GO-Cu(II)-AmTZ and AP. The low-temperature decomposition (LTD, 335.3 degrees C) and high-temperature decomposition (HTD, 441.3 degrees C) peaks of AP were reduced to an exothermic peak at 298.4 degrees C at a heating rate of 10 degrees C min(-1). GO-Cu(II)-AmTZ exhibits outstanding catalytic performance by decreasing the activation energy from 168.7 kJ mol(-1) to 122.4 kJ mol(-1), indicating its promising application as a combustion catalyst for improving the thermal-catalytic decomposition performance of energetic materials largely. In addition, thermal analysis techniques including thermogravimetry coupled with mass spectrometry (TG/MS) and thermogravimetry coupled with infrared spectrometry (TG/IR) were employed to determine the decomposition mechanisms.

The self-assembly of triazole amphiphiles was examined in solution, the solid state, and in bilayer membranes. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiments show that stacked protonated triazole quartets (T-4) are stabilized by multiple strong interactions with two anions. Hydrogen bonding/ion pairing of the anions are combined with anion-pi recognition to produce columnar architectures. In bilayer membranes, low transport activity is observed when the T-4 channels are operated as H+/X- translocators, but higher transport activity is observed for X- in the presence of the K+-carrier valinomycin. These self-assembled superstructures, presenting intriguing structural behaviors such as directionality, and strong anion encapsulation by hydrogen bonding supported by vicinal anion-pi interactions can serve as artificial supramolecular channels for transporting anions across lipid bilayer membranes.

In the present study, a rapid, less expensive, clean and environmental friendly route to synthesis new pyrazoles, pyrazolopyridazines and condensed pyrimidines was developed via grinding of 2-(3-(dimethylamino)acryloyl)-3H-benzo[f]chromen-3-one (1) with different reagents. A novel, eco-friendly and fast route has been developed for the synthesis of new and known triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin fused chromone derivatives via a one pot three-component reaction of 3-amino-1,2,4-triazoles, aromatic aldehydes and 4-hydroxycoumarin in aqueous medium at room temperature. These reactions are catalyzed by MCM-41-HWO4 as a safe and recyclable mesoporous solid acid. It combines successfully the synergistic effect of green chemistry with nanocatalysis. The yields are high and the products were characterized by H-1 NMR, (CNMR)-C-13 spectra and elemental analysis.

A P/N-containing flame retardant (PPT) constructed by phosphaphenanthrene, phosphonate, and triazole groups was successfully synthesized and used as a reactive co-curing agent for epoxy resin (EP). The curing behavior, thermal property, combustion behavior, and flame retardant mechanism of EP thermosets were comprehensively investigated. According to the analysis of DSC and TGA, PPT accelerated the crosslinking reaction and enhanced the charring ability for EP thermosets at high temperature. The results of combustion test indicated that PPT endowed epoxy thermoset with outstanding flame retardancy. When the phosphorus content was 0.71 wt%, EP/DDS/PPT-2 achieved a LOI value of 33.2% and passed V-0 rating in UL-94 test, and its peak heat release rate and total heat release were decreased by 63.7 and 30.5%, respectively, relative to EP/DDS.
