In the present study, the chemical structure of 4,4′-trimethylene-N,N’-dipiperidinium chlorosulfonate is elucidated by 1D NMR, and 2D NMR, FTIR, Raman analyses, and Mass spectra. It was indicated that the chlorosulfonic acid could not act as a sulfonating agent in the reaction with secondary amines like TMDP due to due more steric hindrance of the sulfur atom by chlorine and oxygen atoms. Raman and FTIR spectra are demonstrated as two high-value optical techniques to the elucidation and identification of chemical structures that confirmed C3(v) symmetry for chlorosulfonate anion in the ionic liquid. Then, the solvent-catalyst activity of ionic liquid was demonstrated in the one-pot synthesis of a series of novel triazolo-pyrimidines under mild conditions. A P/N-containing flame retardant (PPT) constructed by phosphaphenanthrene, phosphonate, and triazole groups was successfully synthesized and used as a reactive co-curing agent for epoxy resin (EP). The curing behavior, thermal property, combustion behavior, and flame retardant mechanism of EP thermosets were comprehensively investigated. According to the analysis of DSC and TGA, PPT accelerated the crosslinking reaction and enhanced the charring ability for EP thermosets at high temperature. The results of combustion test indicated that PPT endowed epoxy thermoset with outstanding flame retardancy. When the phosphorus content was 0.71 wt%, EP/DDS/PPT-2 achieved a LOI value of 33.2% and passed V-0 rating in UL-94 test, and its peak heat release rate and total heat release were decreased by 63.7 and 30.5%, respectively, relative to EP/DDS. Moreover, the FIGRA of EP/DDS/PPT-2 was reduced from 9.7 to 3.5 kW m(-2) s(-1), manifesting the significantly improved fire safety of EP thermoset. The flame retardant mechanism was summarized as two parts: (a) the barrier effect of continuous phosphorus-rich char layers in condensed phase, (b) the quenching effect of phosphorous radicals and diluting effect of nonflammable gases in gaseous phase.

Using a set of physicochemical (ellipsometry and contact angle measurements), electrochemical (potentiometric anode polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy), and corrosion (periodic moisture condensation test) methods, the properties of adsorption films formed on the AMg6 aluminum alloy surface by the chamber method in vapors of some amines of heterocyclic compounds, carboxylic acids, and their salts are studied. It is established that the use of the studied compounds in the chamber processing of the alloy increases-though not effectively enough-its corrosion resistance in a humid atmosphere. The most promising inhibitors are carboxylic acids themselves; the optimum temperature for surface treatment with them is 140 degrees C. One-hour treatment of steel with pairs of oleic, neodecanoic acid, and carboxylic acid A at this temperature gives rise to the formation of nanoscale adsorption films on the AMg6 alloy, which slightly hydrophilize the surface, but possess a protective aftereffect. Apparently, further improvement of chamber protection methods of the AMg6 alloy should consist in the selection of synergists for chamber corrosion inhibitors of the carboxylate type.

Visualization of intracellular transport pathways is crucial to investigate the internalization mechanism and understand the intracellular behavior of nanomaterials. Herein, we rationalized the design of micellar nanopartides (NPs for ratiometric fluorescent mapping of intracellular pH and glutathione (GSH), two essential parameters for maintaining normal cellular functions. Specifically, pH-sensitive naphthalimide-based probe (NPI) and pH-inert rhodamine B (RhB) were covalently labeled to double hydrophilic block copolymers (DHBCs) using the thiolactone chemistry, enabling the covalent attachment of NPI and RhB to one molecule with a redox-responsive disulfide linkage. The dually labeled DHBCs exhibited blue/orange dual emissions in acidic pH, which was further converted into green/orange dual emissions in neutral pH because of the deprotonation of NPI moieties and the sole green emission in the presence of GSH at neutral pH because of the decreased Forster resonance energy transfer efficiency between an NPI donor and an RhB acceptor as a result of GSH-mediated cleavage of disulfide bonds. These remarkable ratiometric fluorescence changes allowed for not only the simultaneous mapping of the intracellular pH and GSH but also the intracellular transport pathways of internalized NPs.

Mitochondria are known as powerhouse of cells and play the role of a bridge in redox balance, cell apoptosis, and autophagy. ROS accumulation can cause mitochondria damage, while the injured mitochondria will further enhance ROS levels reciprocally. Herein, we synthesized a novel series of [1,2,4] triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-based compounds 4a-4v and tested their anti-proliferation efficacy against gastric cancer cell line MGC-803. Among them, compounds 4o and 4p inhibited gastric cancer cells at micromolar level. Compound 4o caused G2/M arrest and induced mitochondria-dependent apoptosis in MGC-803 and SGC-7901. However, inhibiting apoptosis pathway cannot prevent the inhibitory activity of compound 4o against gastric cancer cell. To our surprising, ROS level was increased by compound 4o and elevation of ROS could be rescued by NAC. In accordance with that, NAC absolutely prevented the anti-proliferation efficacy of compound 4o. We further found that autophagy inhibitor CQ rather than 3-MA partially reversed inhibitory activity of compound 4o in MGC-803 cells. Taken together, compound 4o exhibited its anti-proliferative activity via increasing ROS level and inducing autophagy, thus leading to apoptosis of gastric cancer cells. Supported 3-(3-sulfamic acid imidazolium trifluoroacetate)propyl triethoxysilane on magnetic nanoparticles as a novel nanocatalyst was synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, XRD, TGA, SEM, TEM and VSM techniques. A series of novel inulin derivatives were designed and synthesized by the introduction of amino heterocyclic moieties onto carboxymethyl inulin with the aid of 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride and N-hyd roxysucci ni mide. The target products were prepared via three – step chemical synthesis, and structures were identified by FTIR and H-1 NMR spectroscopy. Antioxidant activities of inulin derivatives including DPPH – radical scavenging assay, superoxide – radical scavenging assay, hydroxyl – radical scavenging assay, and reducing power were estimated. Meanwhile, their antifungal activities, including Colletotrichum lagenarium and Bottytis cinerea, were also explored by hyphal measurement. In particular, inulin derivatives bearing heterocyclic moieties exhibited a remarkable improvement over inulin on antioxidant and antifungal activities, and their bioactivities decreased roughly in the order of 2ATCMI > 4APCMI > 3APCMI > 2APCMI > 3ATCMI > CMI > inulin. Furthermore, the cytotoxicities of inulin derivatives against L929 cells were evaluated by CCK-8 in vitro, and all samples showed weak cytotoxicities. In a nutshell, the paper provides a practical approach to synthesize novel inulin derivatives with dramatically enhanced bioactivity and good biocompatibility. A series of new substituted benzimidazoles embedded with a variety of function groups has been synthesized from N-methyl-2-bromoacetylbenzimidazole. ATP-sensitive potassium (K-ATP) channels and transient receptor potential melastatin 2 (TRPM2) channels are commonly expressed both pre- and postsynaptically in the central nervous system (CNS). We hypothesized that K-ATP and TRPM2 may couple metabolic status to the resting membrane potential of octopus neurons of the mouse ventral cochlear nucleus (VCN). Therefore, we studied the expression of K-ATP channels and TRPM2 channels in octopus cells by immunohistochemical techniques and their contribution to neuronal electrical properties by the electrophysiological patch clamp technique. In immunohistochemical staining of octopus cells, labelling with Kir6.2 and SUR1 antibodies was strong, and labelling with the SUR2 antibody was moderate, but labelling with Kir6.1 was very weak. Octopus cells had intense staining with TRPM2 antibodies. In patch clamp recordings, bath application of KATP channel agonists H2O2 (880 mu M), ATZ (1 mM), cromakalim (50 mu M), diazoxide (200 mu M), NNC 55-0118 and NN 414 separately resulted in hyperpolarizations of resting potential to different extents. Application of 8-Bro-cADPR (50 mu M), a specific antagonist of TRPM2 channels, in the presence of H2O2 (880 mu M) resulted in further hyperpolarization by approximately 1 mV. The amplitudes of H2O2-induced outward K-ATP currents and ADPR-induced inward currents were 206.1 +/- 31.5 pA (n = 4) and 136.8 +/- 22.4 pA, respectively, at rest. Their respective reversal potentials were -77 +/- 2.6 mV (n = 3) and -6.3 +/- 2.9 (n = 3) and -6.3 +/- 2.9 (n = 3). In conclusion, octopus cells appear to possess both K-ATP channels and TRPM2-like channels. K-ATP might largely be constituted by SUR1-Kir6.2 subunits and SUR2-Kir6.2 subunits. Both K-ATP and TRPM2-like channels might have a modulatory action in setting the membrane potential.
