A double-network anion exchange membrane (TA/AT-PEK/PVA-x) was prepared by Br-PEK and PVA, 3-amino-1,2,4 triazole forms a cross-linking structure with PVA under the action of 1,4-phthalaldehyde and then triazole can be linked with Br-PEK. The structure of membranes was verified by FT-IR. The composite membrane is uniform and smooth can be seen from the scanning electron microscope (SEM) and exhibit good hydrophilic/hydrophobic micro-phase separation structure proved by Transmission electron micrograph (TEM). The ionic conductivity of TA/AT-PEK/PVA-0.15 is 0.062 S/cm at 80 degrees C. With the addition of PVA within a certain range, the water uptake, swelling ratio hydroxide conductivity and alkaline stability are increase. The membranes are more flexible. After immersing in 4M NaOH solutions for 240 h at 80 degrees C, it remains at least 65% of its initial hydroxide ion conductivity of TA/AT-PEK/PVA-0.3 membrane. With the increasing number of water molecules solvating the hydroxide, its nucleophilicity and basicity were hindered, which enhance alkaline stability of anion exchange membranes.

Polyfunctional 3-chloro-3-(4-chlorocoumarin-3-yl)prop-2-enal (1) used as a precursor for heterocyclic synthesis. Dichloro-aldehyde 1 was allowed to react with variable nucleophilic reagents, and a diversity of heterocyclic systems linked coumarin moiety at position 3 was synthesized. The reaction of compound 1 with guanidine and cyanoguanidine produced 3-(pyrimidin-4-yl)-4-chlorocoumarins 2 and 3. Treating compound 1 with 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole and 2-aminobenzimidazole yielded triazolo[4,3-a]pyrimidine 4 and pyrimido[1,2-a]benzimidazole 5. The treatment of compound 1 with cyanoacetamide, N-benzyl-2-cyanoacetamide, and 1H-benzimidazolylacetonitrile gave 2(1H)-pyridones 6, 7 and pyrido[1,2-a]benzimidazole 8. The reaction of compound 1 with 5-amino-3-methyl-1H-pyrazole and 6-aminouracil afforded pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine 9 and pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine 10, respectively. Compound 1 reacted with ethylenediamine, o-phenylenediamine, o-aminophenol, and o-aminothiophenol leading to 5-(imidazolylmethyl)chromeno[4,3-e] [1,4]diazepine (12), 3-(benzodiazepin/benzoxazepin-2-yl)-4-chlorocoumarins 13, 14, and 6-(benzothiazol-2-ylmethyl)chromeno[4,3-b][1,5]benzothiazepine 16, respectively. Endocytosis of the amyloid precursor protein (APP) is critical for generation of beta-amyloid, aggregating in Alzheimer’s disease. APP endocytosis depending on the intracellular NPTY motif is well investigated, whereas involvement of the YTSI (also termed BaSS) motif remains controversial. Here, we show that APP lacking the YTSI motif (Delta YTSI) displays reduced localization to early endosomes and decreased internalization rates, similar to APP Delta NPTY. Additionally, we show that the YTSI-binding protein, PAT1a interacts with the Rab5 activator RME-6, as shown by several independent assays. Interestingly, knockdown of RME-6 decreased APP endocytosis, whereas overexpression increased the same. Similarly, APP Delta NPTY endocytosis was affected by PAT1a and RME-6 overexpression, whereas APP Delta YTSI internalization remained unchanged. Moreover, we could show that RME-6 mediated increase of APP endocytosis can be diminished upon knocking down PAT1a. Together, our data identify RME-6 as a novel player in APP endocytosis, involving the YTSI-binding protein PAT1a.

With aiding of microwave radiation, new series of fused-thiazolopyrimidines and fused-triazolopyrimidines each with cycloheptane have been synthesized through the reaction of cycloheptane-thione with alpha-haloketones or hydrazonoyl chlorides in short-time intervals as well as high yield. Moreover, reaction of 2,7-bis(2-chlorobenzylidene)cycloheptan-1-one with o-aminothiophenol and heterocyclic amines afforded benzo[b]cyclohepta[e][1,4]thiazepine derivative and cycloheptapyrimidines fused with different azoles, respectively. The structure for all products was discussed and proved based on the results of spectral data and elemental analysis. Evaluation of the antimicrobial activity of selected products indicated that most of derivatives showed their potent activity exceeds the reference antibiotic in some cases.

A novel pyridinium salt derivative, 2,3,4,5,6-pentaphenyl-1-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)pyridinium perchlorate (1) has been designed and synthesized by using pyrylium perchlorate and 3-amino-1H-1,2,4-triazole as ingredients, which can be exploited for the binding and specific sensing of anion via hydrogen bonds. Compound 1 exhibits intense blue emission in solution with maximum emission at 469 nm with a red shift relative to that (426 nm) of solid state. The luminescence intensity of 1 could be selectively and sensitivity quenched with acetate ion and fluorine ion among various anions including F-, Cl-, Br-, I-, AcO- and NO3-. Furthermore, the possible detection mechanism was investigated. This work could contribute a credible potential sensing application of 1,2,4-triazolyl substituted pentaphenylpyridinium salts towards the specific anions in biological and environmental concerns. A thermo-responsive copolymer with a gas-switchable LCST-type phase transition was synthesized by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), followed by post-polymerization functionalization with sodium 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole (ATANa). Incorporating ionic moieties provides an elevated cloud point of 61 degrees C. Importantly, both CO2 and SO2 cause a reduction in the cloud point of the polymer solution. The CO2-triggered system can be easily and fully recovered to its initial state by introducing an inert gas (e.g. N-2), whereas the SO2-triggered system shows only partial recovery. The pH-dependent phase transition behaviors confirm that the gas bubbling-induced pH changes contribute to the gas-switchable cloud point of P(NIPAM-co-(GMA-ATANa)). In addition, P(NIPAM-co-(GMA-ATA)) (ATA: 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole), a counterpart of P(NIPAM-co-(GMA-ATANa)), was prepared and the relevant solution phase transition behavior was studied. Its cloud point shift in response to gas bubbling and pH adjustment is opposite to that of P(NIPAM-co-(GMA-ATANa)), indicating that the latter does not result from the protonation of amidine groups. Alternatively, a reversible H+-induced decrease in hydrophilicity was thus proposed. This contribution enriches the family of thermo-responsive polymers by introducing gas-sensitive polyelectrolytes and also broadens the scope of gas-responsive smart materials.

Wood (secondary xylem) formation in tree species is dependent on auxin-mediated vascular cambium activity in stems. However, the complex regulatory networks underlying xylem formation remain elusive. Xylem development in Populus was characterized based on microscopic observations of stem sections in transgenic plants. Transcriptomic, quantitative real-time PCR, chromatin immunoprecipitation PCR, and electrophoretic mobility shift assay analyses were conducted to identify target genes involved in xylem development. Yeast two-hybrid, pull-down, bimolecular fluorescence complementation, and co-immunoprecipitation assays were used to validate protein-protein interactions. PaC3H17 and its target PaMYB199 were found to be predominantly expressed in the vascular cambium and developing secondary xylem in Populus stems and play opposite roles in controlling cambial cell proliferation and secondary cell wall thickening through an overlapping pathway. Further, PaC3H17 interacts with PaMYB199 to form a complex, attenuating PaMYB199-driven suppression of its xylem targets. Exogenous auxin application enhances the dual control of the PaC3H17-PaMYB199 module during cambium division, thereby promoting secondary cell wall deposition. Dual regulation of xylem formation by an auxin-mediated PaC3H17-PaMYB199 module represents a novel regulatory mechanism in Populus, increasing our understanding of the regulatory networks involved in wood formation.

For the first time, the coordination-based energy sacrificial bonds have been constructed in the interface between lignin and polyolefin elastomer for preparing a new class of high performance thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) with biomass lignin as the hard plastic phase. The coordination bonds not only promoted the dispersion of lignin, but also improved the interfacial interactions between lignin and polyolefin elastomer matrix, and also facilitated the orientation of chain segments during stretching. The synergistic coordination effect of lignin promoted higher energy dissipation, leading to simultaneously enhanced strength and toughness of lignin-based TPEs even with the lignin loading as high as 30 wt %. The lignin-based TPEs also exhibited excellent shape memory performance. Our strategy offers a promising methodology for the facile production of high performance but cost-effective TPE materials using biorenewable resources as plastic phase.

Chemical transformations of chromone-3-carbonitrile (1) with some substituted hydrazines, namely, thiosemicarbazide, S-methyl/benzyldithiocarbazate, 7-chloro-4-hydrazinoquinoline, and 3-hydrazino-5,6-diphenyl-1,2,4-triazine, led to substituted pyrazoles 2, 5-8. Ring opening of carbonitrile 1 followed by recyclization with 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole and 2-aminobenzimidazole gave triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine 9 and pyrimido[1,2-a]benzimidazole 10, respectively. The novel 3-hydroxychromeno[4,3-b]pyrazolo[4,3-e]pyridin-5(1H)-one (13) was efficiently synthesized from the ring conversion of carbonitrile 1 with cyanoacetohydrazide. A mixture of chromeno[2,3-b]naphthyridine 14 and chromeno[4,3-b]pyridine 15 was obtained from base catalyzed transformation of carbonitrile 1 with malononitrile dimer. A diversity of novel annulated chromeno[2,3-b]pyridines 16-22 was also synthesized. Chromeno[2,3-b]pyrrole-2-carboxylate 23 was obtained from the reaction of carbonitrile 1 with ethyl chloroacetate. Structures of the new synthesized products were deduced on the basis of their analytical and spectral data.

Bismuth oxyhalides (BiOX (X = Cl, Br, I) are considered to be an important p-type semiconductors in the photocatalysis applications. In particular, tetragonal BiOBr is considered as a stable photocatalyst due to its resilient absorption in the visible region with an band gap energy of 2.8 eV. In the meantime, lanthanide ions (with 3+ oxidation state) implies as conversion catalyst gained huge impact and remain a serious topic in materials chemistry. Here we synthesized upconversion photocatalyst mainly consists of BiOBr with the Er 3+ and Tb 3+ ions along with low band gap g-C3N5 for the improved photocatalytic performances. The synthesized Er3+/ Tb3+@BiOBr-g-C3N5 heterojunction was systematically characterized by XRD, and FT-IR for the confirmation of the composite and their morphology were analysed with FESEM and HR-TEM analysis which revealed that the sheets of g-C3N5 were decorated by Er3+/Tb3+ loaded BiOBr microspheres. The XPS analysis confirmed the suitable oxidation state of all the individual elements existing in the composite. As the UV-DRS analysis showed that the band gap of the Er3+/Tb3+ BiOBr-gC3N5 heterojunction was narrowed to 2.64 eV. To evaluate the photocatalytic efficiency of the synthesized g-C3N5, Er3+/Tb3+@BiOBr and Er3+/Tb3+@BiOBr-gC3N5 heterojunction under the simulated visible light irradiation source towards the aqueous sulfamethoxazole degradation. The Er3+/Tb3+@BiOBr-gC3N5 heterojunction shows maximum degradation efficiency of 94.2% after 60 min of visible light irradiation whereas the pure g-C3N5 provided about 43.8% and Er3+/Tb3+@BiOBr implies 55.2% degradation efficiency. The plausible degradation mechanism of pollutant removal was proposed.
