The ester compound in tetrahydrofuran (40 mL) was treated with 2 N aqueous sodium hydroxide (20 mL) and stirred at room temperature for 3 h. The reaction mixture was cooled in an ice bath and acidified with 6 N hydrochloric acid (10 mL). The resulting mixture was extracted with ether (200 mL), and the separated organic layer was washed with saturated aqueous sodium chloride, dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated to give 6.38 g of the title compound as a pale yellow oil. The crude product was triturated with hot n-butyl chloride (100 mL). The mixture was cooled to room temperature and filtered to give 3.77 g of the title compound as a white solid melting at 147-152 C. 1H NMR (CDCl3): delta 5.00 (s, 2H).

ESI-MS m/z calc. 254.98074, found 257.97 (M+i) Retention time: 0.81 minutes.
