The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was purified by chromatography on silica (petroleum ether : EtOAc =10: 1) to provide the title compound. LRMS m/z (M+H) 196.0 found, 196.0 required.

Once the aldehyde was added the reaction was allowed to warm to room temperature. After 3 hours, the reaction was quenched by pouring it into a saturated solution of aqueous NH4Cl. The aqueous portion was extracted with EtOAc in portions, 7*400 mL. The combined organics were washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated to dryness to give a brown oil. Chromatography on silica gel (10% acetone-DCM increasing to 50% acetone and increasing to 10% MeOH-DCM) provided the title compound as an amber solid.

The reaction was quenched by water, extracted with ethyl acetate, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated under vacuum. The residue was applied onto a silica gel column with ethyl acetate/petroleum ether (1:10). This resulted in 10 g (28%) of the title compound as yellow oil. LC-MS (ES, mlz): 200 [M+H].
