A novel, eco-friendly and fast route has been developed for the synthesis of new and known triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin fused chromone derivatives via a one pot three-component reaction of 3-amino-1,2,4-triazoles, aromatic aldehydes and 4-hydroxycoumarin in aqueous medium at room temperature. These reactions are catalyzed by MCM-41-HWO4 as a safe and recyclable mesoporous solid acid. It combines successfully the synergistic effect of green chemistry with nanocatalysis. The yields are high and the products were characterized by H-1 NMR, (CNMR)-C-13 spectra and elemental analysis.

Ten 5-functionalized derivatives of 1,3-oxazole-4-carboxylate and 1,3-oxazole-4-carbonitrile were synthesized and their antiviral activities against the human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) were evaluated in vitro. Bioassays showed that seven compounds exhibited considerably higher antiviral activity (EC50:<0.05M) against a normal laboratory HCMV strain (AD-169) in human foreskin fibroblast cells than Ganciclovir (EC50=0.32M), an anti-HCMV agent in clinical use. Additionally, the HCMV-resistant isolate (GDGr K-17) was tested for sensitivity to 1,3-oxazole derivatives with most antiviral potency against the strain AD169. A one of them (5-((2-hydroxyethyl)(methyl)amino)-2-(4-methylphenyl)-1,3-oxazole-4-carbonitrile) showed very high potency (EC50:<0.05; CC50: >150 mu M, and SI50=3125) towards the resistant isolate compared to standard drugs Cidofovir (EC50=0.10 mu M, CC50: >30 mu M and SI50: <4). But, in contrast to the primary assays, the antiviral activity of these compounds against both the normal strain and the resistant isolate of HCMV were considerably less than one of Cidofovir in secondary assay. These results provided evidence that derivatives of 1,3-oxazole could be useful for developing new anti-HCMV drugs. Five novel rhodium(II) complexes of general formula [Rh-2(mu-OOCCH3)(4)L-2], where L is a triazolopyrimidine derivative, in particular dimethyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine (dmtp) for (1), 5,7-diethyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5a]pyrimidine (detp) for (2), 7-isobutyl-5-methyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine (ibmtp) for (3), 7-hydroxy-5methyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine (HmtpO) for (4) and 5,7-ditertbutyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine (dbtp) for (5) are reported. These first representatives of paddle-wheel dirhodium complexes with triazolopyrimidines have been characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy as well as by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Three of the new complexes (1), (2) and (5) were thoroughly screened in vitro for their cytotoxicity against human breast cancer cell line MCF-7 and L929 murine fibroblast cells. Favorably, they show significantly less effective inhibition on the cell growth of L929 than cisplatin under identical conditions. Complexes (1) and (5) display moderate cytotoxic activity (IC50 = 16.3-21.5 mu M) against MCF-7 cells which is induced via reactive oxygen species-independent pathways. Extensive studies of rhodium complexes (1), (2) and (5) against microorganisms have shown that the tested compounds exhibit antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) while (5) significantly inhibited the growth of Malassezia furfur. The highest antibacterial, and antifungal activity, was observed for (5).

A new energetic coordination polymer (ECP) composite, namely GO-Cu(II)-AmTZ, has been synthesized by 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole (AmTZ) and multifunctional graphene oxide (GO) coordination with Cu(II) successively. The ECP composite was further characterized through SEM, EDS and XPS analysis as well as FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. It shows high thermostability, high decomposition heat release and insensitivity to mechanical stimuli. What’s more, thermal analysis data for ammonium perchlorate (AP) have been obtained by mechanically mixing GO-Cu(II)-AmTZ and AP. The low-temperature decomposition (LTD, 335.3 degrees C) and high-temperature decomposition (HTD, 441.3 degrees C) peaks of AP were reduced to an exothermic peak at 298.4 degrees C at a heating rate of 10 degrees C min(-1). GO-Cu(II)-AmTZ exhibits outstanding catalytic performance by decreasing the activation energy from 168.7 kJ mol(-1) to 122.4 kJ mol(-1), indicating its promising application as a combustion catalyst for improving the thermal-catalytic decomposition performance of energetic materials largely. In addition, thermal analysis techniques including thermogravimetry coupled with mass spectrometry (TG/MS) and thermogravimetry coupled with infrared spectrometry (TG/IR) were employed to determine the decomposition mechanisms.

It is desirable yet challenging to synthesize a highly ordered holey carbon nitride material with excess nitrogen atoms for a sustainable solar H(2)evolution. Herein, we report the development of directed highly ordered nitrogen-rich honeycomb-like mesoporous carbon nitride nanosheets by using a novel synthetic approach for this purpose. The unique formation route, surface structure and charge carrier dynamics of the two dimensional holey nanosheets are comprehensively monitored and confirmed by SAXS, HRTEM, AFM, BET, XPS and TRPL analyses. Non-stoichiometric high nitrogen content mesoporous nanosheets with the final stoichiometry of g-C(3)N(4.5)acquiring a high specific surface area (382 m(2)g(-1)), remarkable pore size (7.2 nm) and sheet thickness similar to 5-6 nm are realized in this first report. This elegant material possesses unique low band-gap energy (2.42 eV). Remarkably, the as-synthesized g-C(3)N(4.5)NSs exhibit a record high photocatalytic H(2)evolution rate of 8180 mu mol g(-1)h(-1)under the present light irradiation (420 <=lambda <= 510 nm) condition. The apparent quantum efficiency is found to be as high as 27.14% at 420 nm and retains its photocatalytic activity for longer consecutive catalytic cycles. Bigger pore size and pore volume, and thin walls leading to shortening of the path length of exciton pairs, efficient charge separation and the prolonged average life time of the charge carriers, and lone electron pairs associated with the excess nitrogen content are found to be the reasons behind the excellent visible light driven water splitting reaction. Cancer is a leading cause of human death worldwide. One of the greatest challenges in cancer therapy is the discovery and design of novel products with potential anti-tumor activities. In this study, a new protocol involves three-component condensation of the 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole as a 1,3-binucleophile, versatile aldehydes and Nmethyl-1-(methylthio)-2-nitroethenamine as an enamine analogous in the presence of trichloroacetic acid as a Bronsted-Lowry acidic promoter leads to new functionalized N-alkyl-6-nitro-3,5-dihydro-[1,2,4]triazolo [1,5-a] pyrimidin-7-amine in moderate to good yields. The presence of five nitrogen heteroatoms in the product structure has gathered immense attention among chemists and biologists due to their biological values. Therefore, we evaluated the anti-tumor activity of our synthetic compounds on different cancer cells including human malignant melanoma cells (A375), prostate cancer cells (PC3 cells, LNCaP cells) and normal cells HDF (human dermal fibroblast). Notably, we found that compound 4b that contains a nitro group has the best antitumor activity on three different cancer cells. By using DAPI staining, we showed cancer cells death. Apoptosis induction was shown using quantitative real time PCR (qRT-PCR) by evaluating of Bax and Bcl2 mRNA levels. Finally, we demonstrated that 4b has epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) inhibition effect on cancer cells (by induction of E-cadherin and reduction of vimentin mRNA expression levels as two potential EMT markers). So, 4b could be an anti-cancer promising drug. Although, in vivo experiments will be required to evaluate possible side effects.

A new naphthalenediimide derivative, 2, 7-di (1, 2, 4-triazolyl) benzophenanthroline-tetraone (3-DTBPT) is synthesized by the condensation reaction of 1, 4, 5, 8-naphthalenetetracarboxylic anhydride (NTCDA) and 3-amino-1, 2, 4-triazole (3-AT). The 3-DTBPT material is characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrum, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, solid state NMR spectra, field emission scanning electron microscopy, elemental analysis and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface. 3-DTBPT is insoluble in organic electrolyte. When used as a cathode material of lithium-ion batteries, 3-DTBPT exhibits an excellent cyclic stability, keeping a specific capacity of 110 mA h g(-1) and a nearly 94.8% capacity retention after 50 cycles at 50 mA g(-1). Our work provides an effective route for overcoming the dissolution problem of organic electrode materials and obtains a potential material for the long-cycle-life and flexible organic rechargeable batteries.

The use of -enamino diketones as an easy entry to the regioselective synthesis of [1,2,4]triazolo[1,5- a ]pyrimidines is reported. These ketones reacted with 3-amino-1 H -1,2,4-triazoles to furnish exclusively 6-substituted 5-(trifluoromethyl)[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5- a ]pyrimidines in yields of up to 95%. The regioselectivity of the reactions performed was maintained regardless of the substituent in the starting ketone or aminoazole.

Utilization of lignocellulosic biomass is increasingly important. Jasminum nudiflorum Lindl. (JNL) is a widely cultivated landscape plant in China. To evaluate the chemical components, pyrolysis characteristics as well as the potential values of JNL bark for utilization, the components were extracted using methanol, ethanol, and benzene/ethanol (2:1, v/v) and pyrolyzed from room temperature to 300 ?C, respectively. Many components were detected in the extracts and the pyrolyzates of JNL bark and their chemical properties were analyzed. The compounds identified in the extracts and the pyrolyzates of JNL bark included acids, aldehydes, alcohols, esters, ketones, aromatics, saccharides, olefins, and nitrogen-containing compounds. Some of the identified compounds, such as urs-12-en-28-al, 3-(acetyloxy)-, (3.beta.)-, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, and vanillin, are widely used in the medical, energy, and food industries. The pyrolysis of JNL bark using thermogravimetric (TG) analyzer showed the highest reaction rate occurred at between 200 and 300 ?C where the maximum mass loss was observed. According to the Coats-Redfern method, the calculated apparent activation energy (E) and pre-exponential factor (A) of the pyrolysis process of JNL bark were 52.04 kJ mol- 1 and 3.14 ? 105 min-1, respectively. This research provides information on the components and pyrolysis characteristics of JNL bark, which shows great potential for application in medical, food, and chemical industries.

The reactivity of 3-substituted-6,8-dimethylchromone derivatives 1-5 was investigated toward selected nucleophilic reagents namely; 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole, 2-aminobenzimidazole, 7-chloro-4-hydrazinoquinoline, and 5,6-diphenyl-3-hydrazino-1,2,4-triazine. These nucleophiles were allowed to react with 6,8-dimethylchromone-3-carboxaldehyde (1) through condensation with the aldehyde group with opening of gamma-pyrone ring giving compounds 6, 7, 10, and 11. Reactions with 6,8-dimethylchromone-3-carbonitrile (2), and 6,8-dimethylchromone-3-carboxylic acid (3) occur via attack at position 2 in both compounds followed by cycloaddition onto the nitrile function (in case of carbonitrile 2) or decarboxylation and cyclocondensation with the carbonyl group (in case of carboxylic acid 3). The current nucleophilic reagents reacted with simple condensation products 4 and 5, in boiling dioxane, through nucleophilic addition at the exocyclic vinyl bond followed by addition at the C(sic)N group giving 6,8-dimethylchromone linked various heterocyclic systems 20-27.
