Herein, perylene diimide (PDI)/oxygen-doped g-C3N4 nanosheets (O-CN) n-n heterojunction photocatalyst was prepared by an in-situ electrostatic assembling. The pi-pi interaction between self-assembled PDI and O-CN could lead to the electron delocalization effect to facilitate the electron migration. Self-assembled PDI could broaden the visible response range of O-CN to produce more photogenerated carries. Moreover, the interlaced band structures of O-CN and self-assembled PDI could result in a built-in electric field to promote the interfacial charge separation. Besides, many active species (h(+), O-center dot(2-) and O-1(2) ) could be accumulated to improve the oxidation ability of PDI/O-CN. Therefore, PDI/O-CN exhibited enhanced visible photocatalytic oxidation activities towards disinfection, degradation and oxygen evolution. The optimum PDI/O-CN inactivated 96.6% of Staphylococcus aureus cells within 3 h, while O-CN only killed 62.2%. Additionally, the phenol degradation rate and evolved oxygen amount in 2 h of PDI/O-CN-40% were 3.6 and 1.8 times as high as those of O-CN, respectively.

The increasing health risk associated with the exposure to mutagenic, teratogenic and carcinogenic herbicide the environment has encouraged a significant interest towards the development of rapid and cheaper detection technologies for the accurate quantification. The present work involves the exploitation of catalytic oxidation herbicide, amitrole (AMT) at iron doped tungsten oxide (Fe-WO3) nanoparticles and cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) based carbon paste electrode for the sensitive quantification. The working electrode assembly of Fe-WO3/CTAB causes the catalytic oxidation via faster electron transfer compared to bare electrode. Furthermore, the physiochemical properties and thermodynamic properties of AMT were explored. Under the optimized conditions, the modified sensor exhibits good linear detection range (5.0 x 10(-8) M to 8.0 x 10(-5) M), lower limit of detection (0.82 nM) and limit of quantification (2.82 nM) by square wave voltammetric (SWV) technique. Hence, developed senor showed an intensification of peak current of AMT with significant sensitivity, selectivity and reproducibility for AMT analysis and received acceptable results indicates the application of sensors for the analysis of AMT in water as well as soil samples.

ATP-sensitive potassium (K-ATP) channels and transient receptor potential melastatin 2 (TRPM2) channels are commonly expressed both pre- and postsynaptically in the central nervous system (CNS). We hypothesized that K-ATP and TRPM2 may couple metabolic status to the resting membrane potential of octopus neurons of the mouse ventral cochlear nucleus (VCN). Therefore, we studied the expression of K-ATP channels and TRPM2 channels in octopus cells by immunohistochemical techniques and their contribution to neuronal electrical properties by the electrophysiological patch clamp technique. In immunohistochemical staining of octopus cells, labelling with Kir6.2 and SUR1 antibodies was strong, and labelling with the SUR2 antibody was moderate, but labelling with Kir6.1 was very weak. Octopus cells had intense staining with TRPM2 antibodies. In patch clamp recordings, bath application of KATP channel agonists H2O2 (880 mu M), ATZ (1 mM), cromakalim (50 mu M), diazoxide (200 mu M), NNC 55-0118 and NN 414 separately resulted in hyperpolarizations of resting potential to different extents. Application of 8-Bro-cADPR (50 mu M), a specific antagonist of TRPM2 channels, in the presence of H2O2 (880 mu M) resulted in further hyperpolarization by approximately 1 mV. The amplitudes of H2O2-induced outward K-ATP currents and ADPR-induced inward currents were 206.1 +/- 31.5 pA (n = 4) and 136.8 +/- 22.4 pA, respectively, at rest. Their respective reversal potentials were -77 +/- 2.6 mV (n = 3) and -6.3 +/- 2.9 (n = 3) and -6.3 +/- 2.9 (n = 3). In conclusion, octopus cells appear to possess both K-ATP channels and TRPM2-like channels. K-ATP might largely be constituted by SUR1-Kir6.2 subunits and SUR2-Kir6.2 subunits. Both K-ATP and TRPM2-like channels might have a modulatory action in setting the membrane potential.

A series of novel inulin derivatives were designed and synthesized by the introduction of amino heterocyclic moieties onto carboxymethyl inulin with the aid of 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride and N-hyd roxysucci ni mide. The target products were prepared via three – step chemical synthesis, and structures were identified by FTIR and H-1 NMR spectroscopy. Antioxidant activities of inulin derivatives including DPPH – radical scavenging assay, superoxide – radical scavenging assay, hydroxyl – radical scavenging assay, and reducing power were estimated. Meanwhile, their antifungal activities, including Colletotrichum lagenarium and Bottytis cinerea, were also explored by hyphal measurement. In particular, inulin derivatives bearing heterocyclic moieties exhibited a remarkable improvement over inulin on antioxidant and antifungal activities, and their bioactivities decreased roughly in the order of 2ATCMI > 4APCMI > 3APCMI > 2APCMI > 3ATCMI > CMI > inulin. Furthermore, the cytotoxicities of inulin derivatives against L929 cells were evaluated by CCK-8 in vitro, and all samples showed weak cytotoxicities. In a nutshell, the paper provides a practical approach to synthesize novel inulin derivatives with dramatically enhanced bioactivity and good biocompatibility. Herein, a novel and sensitive fluorescence method for cartap determination is established on the basis of the inner filter effect (IFE) of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) on the fluorescence of glutathione protected Cu NCs (GSH-Cu NCs). In the presence of Au NPs, the fluorescence of GSH-Cu NCs was strongly quenched by the IFE because the absorption spectra of Au NPs overlap well with the emission spectra of GSH-Cu NCs. Upon addition of cartap, cartap could induce the aggregation of Au NPs whose absorption spectrum does not overlap with the emission spectrum of GSH-Cu NCs. Then, with the increase in cartap concentration, the IFE-decreased fluorescence was gradually recovered, realizing the fluorescence sensing of cartap. Under optimal conditions, the proposed method has a good linear relationship with cartap concentration in the range of 7-100 nM, and the detection limit is 3.34 nM. In addition, satisfactory results were obtained for cartap analysis using tap water and cabbage as real samples, which demonstrated that the method as-developed would have great practical application prospects.

Glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta (GSK-3 beta) and casein kinase 1 delta (CK-1 delta) are emerging targets for the treatment of neuroinflammatory disorders, including Parkinson’s disease. An inhibitor able to target these two kinases was developed by docking-based design. Compound 12, 3-(7-amino-5-(cyclohexylamino)-[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a][1,3,5]triazin-2-yl)-2-cyanoacrylamide, showed combined inhibitory activity against GSK-3 beta and CK-1 delta [IC50(GSK-3 beta)=0.17 mu m; IC50(CK-1 delta)=0.68 mu m]. In particular, classical ATP competition was observed against CK-1 delta, and a co-crystal of compound 12 inside GSK-3 beta confirmed a covalent interaction between the cyanoacrylamide warhead and Cys199, which could help in the development of more potent covalent inhibitors of GSK-3 beta. Preliminary studies on in vitro models of Parkinson’s disease revealed that compound 12 is not cytotoxic and shows neuroprotective activity. These results encourage further investigations to validate GSK-3 beta/CK-1 delta inhibition as a possible new strategy to treat neuroinflammatory/degenerative diseases.
