An effectively Zn/Zn stabilizer system instead of traditional Ca/Zn stabilizer system was put forward, which contained a new triazole-based zinc-containing complex (abbreviated as [Zn(ttr)(St)]) and Zinc stearate (ZnSt(2)). Without Ca soap in the system, [Zn(ttr)(St)] itself could effectively absorb HCl and provided PVC with higher transparency and better thermal stability without zinc burning than commercial CaSt(2)/ZnSt(2) stabilizer system, verified by Congo red tests and discoloration tests and dynamic thermal stability analysis. In addition, [Zn(ttr)(St)] could further delay zinc burning of other zinc soaps, constituting Zn/Zn stabilizer system. This is attributed to the strong ability of restricting ZnCl2 of 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole released from [Zn(ttr)(St)] after absorbing HCl. After adding ESBO, PVC stabilized by [Zn(ttr)(St)]/ZnSt(2)/ESBO showed excellent transparency and thermal stability. We believe that [Zn(ttr)(St)] can act as a novel double agent with the stabilization effects of zinc soap and calcium soap at the same time and this Zn/Zn stabilizer system may inaugurate a new stabilizer system for PVC with synergistic effect. This work introduces a new additive named 4,4′-trimethylenedipiperidine for the practical and ecofriendly preparation of ethyl 5-amino-7-(4-phenyl)-4,7-dihydro-[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-6-carboxylate derivatives. This chemical is commercially available and easy to handle. It also possesses a low melting point and a broad liquid range temperature, high thermal stability, and good solubility in water. Based on green chemistry principles, the reaction was performed in a) a mixture of green solvents i.e. water and ethanol (1:1 v/v) at reflux temperature, and b) the additive was liquefied at 65 degrees C and the reaction was conducted in the liquid state of the additive. High yields of the desired triazolo-pyrimidines were obtained under both aforementioned conditions. Our results demonstrated that this additive, containing 2 Lewis base sites and able to act as an acceptor-donor hydrogen bonding group, is a novel and efficient alternative to piperidine, owing to its unique properties such as its reduced toxicity, nonflammable nature, nonvolatile state, broad liquid range temperature, high thermal stability, and ability to be safely handled. Furthermore, this additive could be completely recovered and exhibited high recyclability without any change in its chemical structure and no significant reduction in its activity. The current methodology has several advantages: (a) it avoids the use of hazardous materials, as well as toxic, volatile, and flammable solvents, (b) it does not entail tedious processes, harsh conditions, and the multistep preparation of catalysts, (c) it uses a metal-free and noncorrosive catalyst, and (d) reduces the generation of hazardous waste and simple work-up processes. The most important result of this study is that 4,4′-trimethylenedipiperidine can be a promising alternative for toxic, volatile, and flammable base reagents in organic synthesis owing to its unique properties.

Due to the disadvantages of lower tensile strength and fracture toughness, the widely application of Ethylene-propylene-diene-monomer rubber (EPDM) has been limited. In this study, a thermally reversible healing EPDM based elastomer with H-bonding and Zn-based-bonding dynamic cross-link network was prepared. The influence of mole ratio of ATA/MAH on tensile strength and fracture energy of mEPDM(0)-xATA was investigated. The results showed that increasing the content of ATA brings about a gradual improvement in tensile strength of the mEPDM(0)-xATA. Especially when the mole ratio of ATA/MAH is 1, the fracture energy of mEPDM(0)-ATA is dramatically enhanced to 33.9 MJ/m(3), which is best among the ratios studied in our research. After curing, the effect of ZnCl(2)content on tensile strength and fracture energy of mEPDM-ATA-nZn was also studied. Meanwhile, the uniaxial cyclic loading-unloading tensile test was used to study the viscous damping properties of mEPDM-ATA-0.4Zn, which showed reversible repair properties after heat treatment. The results of dynamic rheological measurement showed that the damping properties were improved.

Five novel rhodium(II) complexes of general formula [Rh-2(mu-OOCCH3)(4)L-2], where L is a triazolopyrimidine derivative, in particular dimethyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine (dmtp) for (1), 5,7-diethyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5a]pyrimidine (detp) for (2), 7-isobutyl-5-methyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine (ibmtp) for (3), 7-hydroxy-5methyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine (HmtpO) for (4) and 5,7-ditertbutyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine (dbtp) for (5) are reported. These first representatives of paddle-wheel dirhodium complexes with triazolopyrimidines have been characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy as well as by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Three of the new complexes (1), (2) and (5) were thoroughly screened in vitro for their cytotoxicity against human breast cancer cell line MCF-7 and L929 murine fibroblast cells. Favorably, they show significantly less effective inhibition on the cell growth of L929 than cisplatin under identical conditions. Complexes (1) and (5) display moderate cytotoxic activity (IC50 = 16.3-21.5 mu M) against MCF-7 cells which is induced via reactive oxygen species-independent pathways. Extensive studies of rhodium complexes (1), (2) and (5) against microorganisms have shown that the tested compounds exhibit antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) while (5) significantly inhibited the growth of Malassezia furfur. The highest antibacterial, and antifungal activity, was observed for (5).

Despite the increasing detection of emerging substances in the environment, the identity of most are left unknown due to the lack of efficient identification methods. We developed a non-target analysis method for identifying unknown substances in the environment by liquid chromatography/high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC/HRMS) with a product ion and neutral loss database (PNDB). The present analysis describes an elucidation method with elemental compositions of the molecules, product ions, and corresponding neutral losses of the unknown substance: (1) with the molecular formula, possible molecular structures are retrieved from two chemical structure databases (PubChem and ChemSpider); then (2) with the elemental compositions of product ions and neutral losses, possible partial structures are retrieved from the PNDB; and finally, (3) molecular structures that match the possible partial structures are listed in order of number of hits. A molecular structure with a higher number of hits is more similar to the structure of the analyzed substance. The performance of the non-target method was evaluated by simulated analysis of 150 LC/HRMS spectra registered in MassBank. First, all substances of the same mass data (41/41) and 68% (39/57) of the mass data of the same substances not registered in the PNDB were elucidated. It was demonstrated that 14% (7/52) and 31% (16/52) of the substances with no mass spectral data registered in the PNDB were obtained at the first and within the fifth place, respectively. Owing to the fact that 10 of the total hits occurred in product ions and neutral losses, almost 50% of the substances evaluated with this method were placed at the top 4 positions in the similarity ranking. Importantly, the proposed method is effective for analyzing mass spectral data that has not been registered in the PNDB and thus is expected to be used for a variety of non-target analyses.

Monodisperse molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for warfarin (WF), 4′-chlorowarfarin (CWF), (S)-CWF and (R)-CWF (MIPWF, MIPCWF, MIP(S)-CWF and MIP(R)-CWF, respectively) were prepared using 4-vinylpyridine (4-VPY) and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EDMA) as a functional monomer and a crosslinker, respectively, by multi-step swelling and polymerization. The molar ratio of a template molecule, 4-VPY to EDMA was 6:18:25 or 4:18:25. The retention and molecular recognition properties of MIPWF and MIPCWF were evaluated using a mixture of sodium phosphate buffer or ammonium formate and acetonitrile in reversed-phase LC. WF and CWF on these MIPs gave the maximal retentions at mobile phase pH 7, and those retentions were decreased with an increase of acetonitrile content. The retention and imprinting factors were in the order of WF < CWF < 4'-bromowarfarin (BWF) on MIPWF and MIPCWF in neutral mobile phases. On the other hands, in acidic mobile phases the retention factors were in the same order with those in neutral mobile phases, while the imprinting factors of WF and CWF were higher on the respective MIPs. These results suggest that ionic or hydrogen bonding interactions, hydrophobic interactions and pi-pi interactions could work for the retention and molecular recognition of WF, CWF and BWF on these MIPs in a reversed-phase mode. Structural analogs of a promising antituberculous agent, ethyl 5-methyl-7-(thiophen-2-yl)-4,7-dihydro[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-6-carboxylate have been synthesized by three-component condensations of various aromatic or hetaromatic aldehydes with several beta-dicarbonyl compounds (CH acids) and 1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-amine or 1H-pyrazol-5-amine. The obtained compounds have been evaluated for tuberculostatic activity, and structure-activity relations have been analyzed.

In the present paper, twelve Schiff bases derived from 3-amino-1H-1,2,4-triazole (ATz) and various benzaldehydes, and salicylaldehydes were synthesized. The H-1, C-13, and N-15 NMR data are discussed in relation to the structure of ATz and its imine products. In addition, X-ray, ATR-FTIR, and UV-Vis analytical techniques are used for structure elucidation of ATz-based Schiff bases. It was found that the starting material, 3-amino-1H-1,2,4-triazole, exists as tautomeric mixture of three forms (Graphical Abstract) in solution, whereas in the solid state (C-13 and N-15 CPMAS data) potentially tautomeric proton is located on nitrogen atom traditionally marked as N-2 (Graphical Abstract, 2N-H structure). All investigated Schiff bases derived from salicylaldehydes exist in both phases as tautomeric equilibrium mixtures, where enol-imine forms are dominated structures. The positions of those equilibria only very slightly depend on substituents in phenol ring. Generally, the contributions of keto-amine forms in the solid state are higher comparing with DMSO solutions. (C) 2019 Published by Elsevier B.V.

In this work, phosphorus-containing triazolyl amine (P-ATA) was incorporated into epoxy resin (EP) through the ring-opening reaction of epoxy groups, so as to obtain the intrinsically flame-retardant epoxy resin with excellent mechanical properties and high transparency. The modified EP with the addition of 7.5 wt % P-ATA obtained the limited oxygen index value of 33.1% with 32.5% increase compared to pure EP. Meanwhile, the self-intumescent flame-retardant action of EP/P-ATA was also evidenced by the remarkably reduced heat release and the expanded char of high yield, and the relevant flame-retardant mechanism of P-ATA was analyzed systematically. Moreover, EP containing 5.0 wt % P-ATA exhibited excellent mechanical properties with the enhancement of 16% of flexural strength, 17% of tensile strength, and 73% of charpy impact strength. Besides, EP-2.5% and EP-5.0% P-ATA maintained the transmittance more than 90% of neat EP, reserving its potential application in optical fields.

Six novel ruthenium(III) complexes of general formula [RuCl3(L)(3)] (1,3,5) and [RuCl3(H2O)(L)(2)] (2,4,6), where L stands for three different triazolopyrimidine-derived ligands, are reported. The compounds have been structurally characterized (IR, EPR, SCXRD), and their magnetic moments have been determined. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction study revealed a slightly distorted octahedral geometry of the Ru(III) complexes with mer configuration in 1 and 5, and fac configuration in 3. In 2 and 4, three chloride ions are in mer configuration and the two triazolopyrimidines are oriented trans mutually with the water molecule playing the role of the sixth ligand. All complexes have been thoroughly screened for their in vitro cytotoxicity against human breast cancer cell line MCF-7, human cervical cancer cell line HeLa, and L929 murine fibroblast cells, uncovering among others that the most lipophilic complexes 5 and 6, containing the bulky ligand dptp (5,7-diphenyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine), display high cytotoxic activity against MCF-7, and HeLa cells. Moreover, it was also revealed that during the interaction of the complexes 1-6 with the cancer MCF-7 cell line, reactive oxygen species are released intracellularly, which could indicate that they are involved in cell apoptosis. Furthermore, extensive studies have been carried out to reveal the mechanism by which complexes 1-6 interact with DNA, albumin, and apotransferrin. The biological studies were complemented by detailed kinetic studies of the hydrolysis of the complexes in the pH range 5-8, to determine the stability of the complexes in solution.
