The isoindolinone and biaryl scaffolds are prevalent in natural products and drug molecules, which have showed broad and interesting biological activities. The efficient construction of such hybridized molecules and biological evaluation are of great interest to medicinal chemistry community. In this communication, we report an efficient Bronsted acid-promoted C(sp(3))-H functionalization approach that enables the rapid construction of biologically important isoindolinone/[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine hybrids from 5-methyl-7-(2,4,6-trimethoxyphenyl)-[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine, 2-formylbenzoic acid and various anilines. The title compounds were generated in high to excellent yields (up to 96%) regardless of the electronic nature and steric effects of the substituents. In this reaction, an isoindolinone scaffold, one C-C single bond, and two C-N bonds were formed simultaneously with high atom economy. In this work, we have envisioned that the methyl group linked to the electron-deficient N-heterocycles could be used as a new synthetic handle for late-state diversification and may have broad applications in the field of organic and medicinal chemistry. Besides, the title compounds have exhibited promising activity against the SKP2-CKS1 interaction. A new promising protocol has been developed for the synthesis of scarce oxocine derivatives 3a-e and 6 through addition of amine-based nucleophiles such as hydroxylamine hydrochloride, primary amine and hydrazide to chromonylidene benzothiazol-2-ylacetonitrile 2 in refluxing dioxane under metal free reaction conditions in moderate to good yields. Other nitrogen nucleophiles such as piperidine, hydrazine and thiosemicarbazide failed to afford the corresponding oxocinols, and instead pyridine derivatives 7, 8 and 10 were obtained exclusively. Predictive study for the biological activities using PASS (prediction of activity spectra for biologically active substances) online software showed optimistic activities for oxocinols 3a-e in the treatment of cancer, influenza A and microbial infections. Additionally, DFT studies of oxocine derivatives 3a-e and 6 indicated the presence of required thermodynamics parameters for the application in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs).

Breast cancer risk from pesticides may be missed if effects on mammary gland are not assessed in toxicology studies required for registration. Using US EPA’s registration documents, we identified pesticides that cause mammary tumors or alter development, and evaluated how those findings were considered in risk assessment. Of 28 pesticides that produced mammary tumors, EPA’s risk assessment acknowledges those tumors for nine and dismisses the remaining cases. For five pesticides that alter mammary gland development, the implications for lactation and cancer risk are not assessed. Many of the mammary-active pesticides activate pathways related to endocrine disruption: altering steroid synthesis in H295R cells, activating nuclear receptors, or affecting xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes. Clearer guidelines based on breast cancer biology would strengthen assessment of mammary gland effects, including sensitive histology and hormone measures. Potential cancer risks from several common pesticides should be re-evaluated, including: malathion, triclopyr, atrazine, propylene oxide, and 3-iodo-2-propynyl butylcarbamate (IPBC).

N-doped carbon nanopipe-arrayed mesoporous carbon (N-CMK-5) with double-pore system, large surface area (992 m(2)/g), and high nitrogen amount (5.2 at.%) was synthesized by a simplified template route. In this route, mesoporous silica was directly used instead of using time-consuming aluminosilicate as a template and the carbonization process occurred in a nitrogen atmosphere instead of a vacuum. Furthermore, CMK-3, N-doped CMK-3, and CMK-5 ordered mesopomus carbons (OMCs) were compared with the as-prepared N-doped CMK-5 (N-CMK-5) to investigate the effect of microstructure on the electrochemical activity of OMCs. N-CMK-5 exhibited higher electrochemical activity than the other OMCs because it has more exposed defective sites and nitrogen active species. The developed N-CMK-5-based electrochemical sensor showed good practical application for the electrochemical detection of pesticide amitrole in real water sample. This work contributes a simplified route to synthesize tubular N-CMK-5 carbon and provides valuable information on the design of high-performance carbon electrode materials.

Environmental pollution by the heavy usage of pesticides has been a pandemic issue in view of the rising farming operations for increasing the crop yield to meet the requirements of food chain supply. Throughout the world, environmental pollution by the presence of pesticides, particularly the use of herbicides in large quantities to protect the crops, has posed many environmental issues. In this research, an electrochemical sensor based on tungsten oxide hydrates (WO3 center dot 0.33H(2)O) nanorod modified carbon paste electrode (CPE) was developed for the detection of herbicide, amitrole (AMT) by the cydic voltammeter. Hydrotheimally synthesized and characterized WO3 center dot 0.33H(2)O nanorod was found to be sensitive towards the detection of AMT due to its superior sensing property as the sensor showed enhanced current and catalytic property when used in phosphate buffer solution (PBS) of pH 5.0 by the cyclic voltammetric (CV) and square wave voltammetric (SWV) techniques. The influence of electro kinetic parameters viz., scan rate, pH, accumulation time and temperature with respect to AMT oxidation was studied using CV. The linearity range was in between 1.0 x 10(-8) M and 24 x 10(-5) M and limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) was calculated to be 233 nM and 7.8 nM respectively. Metal-organic framework compounds with abundant network structures are widely used in gas separation and storage, non-linear optics, catalysis, functional materials, and other applications. Here, self-doped nitrogen porous carbon was prepared by a one-step carbonization of Zn-2(ATRZ)(2)SO4 center dot 3H(2)O synthesized using a hydrothermal method. The self-doped nitrogen porous carbon material (ZYC-800) features a three-dimensional network structure, high specific surface area of 725 m(2) g(-1), and high nitrogen (7.26%) and oxygen (5.46%) contents. Consequently, the ZYC-800 electrode shows a high specific capacitance of 205.5 F g(-1)at a current density of 1.0 A g(-1)and high capacitance retention rate of 71.1% after 5000 cycles. Moreover, a composite electrode material (ZYC-800-5.3) with small redox additives was prepared and showed a high specific capacitance of 274.1 F g(-1)at a current density of 1.0 A g(-1). After 5000 cycles, the capacitance retention rate is 72.8%. The results show that the addition of redox additives in self-doped nitrogen porous carbon is an effective method in the development of high performance supercapacitors.

Carbon nitride (CN) materials are considered as promising photocatalysts due to the advantages of easy availability and visible light absorption. However, wide band gap and high recombination rates of electron-hole pairs of conventional CN materials remain the bottleneck of the photocatalysts. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an efficient strategy to narrow band gap of CN and accelerate its charge transfer. In addition, the introduction of nitrogen (N) vacancies is an efficient strategy to narrow band gap and reduce recombination rates of electron-hole pairs. Herein, a novel triazole ring-based graphite carbon nitride (g-CN) is developed by one step pathway of NaOH-assisted condensation of triazole rings for the first time. It is found that NaOH can control N vacancies and band gap of g-C3Nx. Meanwhile, the N vacancies of g-CN, gradually increase with the increasing concentration of NaOH in the range of 0.005-0.1 g, suppressing the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. The proposed g-C3N5 exhibits outstanding photocatalytical and photoelectrochemical performance. Therefore, the study highlights the significance of N vacancies in enhancing the photocatalytical and photoelectrochemical performance of promising g-C3N5. (C) 2015 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Herein, Fe3O4 nano-particles are anchored over nitrogen doped reduced graphene oxide Fe3O4@N-rGO) structure to accommodate electric and magnetic components, so that it could match both the conduction and polarization loss to augment the attenuation of electromagnetic radiation. The formation of condensed heteroaromatic structure and decoration of Fe3O4 particles on r-GO structure are confirmed by photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD). The Fe3O4@N-rGO hybrid is subsequently dispersed in epoxy matrix, which result in significantly higher electrical conductivity (1.31 s/m) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding efficiency (- 26 dB at 1 mm thickness). It was assumed that presence of electric-magnetic integrated Fe3O4@N-rGO hybrid in epoxy matrix significantly improved the interfacial polarization and anisotropy energy, which was reflected in absorption loss value of -27 dB. The composites also exhibited enhanced mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties coupled with improved thermal stability.

INDETERMINATE DOMAIN (IDD) family proteins are plant-specific transcription factors. SomeArabidopsisIDD (AtIDD) proteins regulate the expression ofSCARECROW(SCR) by interacting with GRAS family transcription factors SHORT-ROOT (SHR) and SCR, which are involved in root tissue formation. Some AtIDD proteins regulate genes involved in the synthesis (GA3ox1) or signaling (SCL3) of gibberellic acid (GA) by interacting with DELLA proteins, a subfamily of the GRAS family. We analyzed the DNA binding properties and protein-protein interactions of select AtIDD proteins. We also investigated the transcriptional activity of the combination of AtIDD and GRAS proteins (AtIDD proteins combined with SHR and SCR or with REPRESSOR ofga1-3(RGA)) on the promoters ofSCR,SCL3, andGA3ox1by conducting a transient assay usingArabidopsisculture cells. Our results showed that theSCRpromoter could be activated by the IDD and RGA complexes and that theSCL3andGA3ox1promoters could be activated by the IDD, SHR, and SCR complexes, indicating the possibility that these complexes regulate and consequently coordinate the expression of genes involved in GA synthesis (GA3ox1), GA signaling (SCL3), and root formation (SCR).

In this study, we isolated an ABA biosynthesis gene, GhNCED, from the transcriptome database of corm dormancy release (CDR), and characterized its negative role in regulating CDR. To understand transcriptional regulation of GhNCED, yeast one-hybrid screening was conducted and GhTCP19 was identified and shown to regulate GhNCED expression directly. An in planta assay showed that GhTCP19 negatively regulates GhNCED expression. GhTCP19 is dramatically induced by exogenous cytokinins (CKs) and is induced during CDR. Silencing of GhTCP19 in dormant cormels delayed CDR, resulting in higher expression of GhNCED and ABA levels. Meanwhile, endogenous CK biosynthesis and signaling were inhibited in GhTCP19-silenced cormels. Taken together, our results reveal that GhTCP19 is a positive regulator of the CDR process by repressing expression of an ABA biosynthesis gene (GhNCED), promoting CK biosynthesis (GhIPT) and signal transduction (GhARR) as well as inducing cyclin genes. This study expands our knowledge on CDR which is mediated by TCP family members.
